Afterwords: Thanks for Playing!

I hope everyone is doing well, I realize this afterwords is coming quite late after the time I posted this VA but better late then never!

This is the first visual novel I have ever completed and posted to the web. Actually, as of writing this, I've had over 100 people download my game and almost 500 in browser plays. Perhaps to some it may not seem like much, but I am over the moon to know so many people played it. I hope it was worth everyone's time! If even a few people enjoyed it, I am happy.

I will share a little about this game! It is a kinetic VN, so as such there are not many choices in the game... in fact there are no choices haha! I wrote everything in one night in preparation for Yaoi Game Jam 2023, I knew exactly what kind of story I wanted to tell and to be honest it practically wrote itself. I've had this idea in my head for so long, it took me a few years to figure out what needed to be made of it. At first I wanted to write a manga, but in the end, Yaoi Game Jam gave me the opportunity I needed and it became a visual novel.

I hope that the characters were loved by others as I loved them. I was a bit worried about those two lol, Chris in particular comes on very strong at times. Occasionally he says things that may be controversial... please forgive him, I promise he always has good intentions! Eventually he came to terms with his inner turmoil, it all culminated in their night together. I struggled with Hayashida's personality the most however. He's so quiet and reserved, Often times I felt like Chris was talking to a doll (and he might have felt that as well) but there is a lot more going on inside that he had a hard time communicating. He too in the end, was able to express himself to his lover, ahhh it was so exciting to write that!

Other struggles I had were related to the world of this VA, I wondered if people would be interested in a military setting... But I have always wanted to write one! I grew up fascinated by WWII and world history, when I first read the manga 'Maiden Rose' it blew my mind to find out that military BL was possible haha! I wanted to make many references to WWII when writing while keeping the names and affiliated parties separate, I think that is a good way to write historical fiction while maintaining some creative liberties. The parallels are no secret, through the art and context clues you can piece together exactly how 'Angel on the Coastal Front' fits into history. I hope no one was offended, I think a love that transpires boundaries of even war are not unheard of! I remember going to a historical museum and reading love letters sent between two soldiers and being incredibly moved by the sentiments, perhaps it influenced this game more than I knew.

I have rambled too long lol, so I will end it here. Thank you all for playing my little game, I appreciate you all. If you have any questions, I feel free to ask in the comments!

Future Visual Novels

I am currently planning a second VN with the experience I gained from writing this one. I hope to write a much longer, even more engaging story and include more than just two characters lol. I'm not confident to share the specifics yet but if you enjoyed 'Angel on the Coastal Front' I'm confident you will be interested. Thank you!
